Winter circus wins Ghent Monument Prize!

Two nominations - One winner

We are extremely pleased with the designation of the Winter Circus as the winner of the Ghent Monument Prize 2022!

Both the professional jury and the public voted the Winter Circus as winner.

The professional jury writes: "SoGent (client) realizes a multifunctional redevelopment in which the building history serves as a starting point and is accompanied by a resolute choice for a new future. ..."

The choice of the Winter Circus (*), as a restoration project - not a monument in the legal sense, confirms our initial options and years of commitment to the repurposing of this unique building based on its exceptional value.

Thank you to SoGent, client, and to their project manager, Bernard Ottevaere. And thanks also to contractor Furnibo for the qualitative cooperation.

(*) The reallocation of the Winter Circus is a joint study project of SumProject (architecture), BARO Architecture & VK Engineering (after initial concept work led by Atelier Kempe Thill).

For the still ongoing restoration of the Library of the University of Ghent, a broad, interdisciplinary team worked very closely for a long time (**). The Boekentoren won the 3rd professional prize.

(**) The restoration of the ‘Boekentoren’ is a joint study project of the Boekentoren Team' (Robbrecht and Daem Architects, SumProject (architecture), B. Van der Wee Architects, BARO Architecture, Greisch engineering, VK Engineering, Daidalos Peutz building physics engineering office).
