In the coming years, a total of 45 beguinage houses will be restored, spread across four consecutive phases. Afterwards, a fifth phase will follow, focusing on the redesign of the public domain. No more than two phases will ever be carried out simultaneously: a new phase only begins once the previous one has been fully completed.
This restoration project is the implementation of the heritage management plan developed by B. Van der Wee Architects and SumResearch.
Sunday October 19, the city of Lier proudly opens the doors of two beautifully restored houses: 'Begga’s Hof' and Antonia’s Huis.
Begga’s Hof (Oud-Kerkhof 13) will become a vibrant meeting point: a hub for visitors, craftspeople, residents, and groups. Its name pays tribute to Saint Begga, the patron saint of the beguines.
Antonia’s Huis (Wezenstraat 7) offers a unique museum experience. Here, the story of Antonia, an 18th-century beguine, brings the past vividly to life.
From 1 p.m. to 5 p.m., the beguinage will transform into a lively festival ground, filled with activities, guided visits, and moments to connect with history. Local associations and the city of Lier join hands to create a warm and festive atmosphere for all ages.
