Quartiers de demain: Corbeil-Essones

SumProject, in collaboration with Paris-based Studio Albedo, proudly ranked 7th out of 76 teams in the international call for the rehabilitation of the former chaufferie in the Tarterêts district of Corbeil-Essonnes.

Our vision celebrated the bold, modernist architecture of the original structure — a striking ensemble of prestressed concrete shells encircling a monumental chimney — and envisioned a respectful transformation rooted in environmental responsibility, spatial preservation, and adaptive reuse.

This project needs a delicate approach to renovation, emphasizing the site's luminous, semi-buried circular space and its unique relationship with the surrounding landscape, aiming to breathe new life into a hidden architectural gem without compromising its powerful identity.
