Feasibility "De Vestel" Royal Belgian Institute of Natural Sciences  | Brussels

The Belgian Buildings Agency is exploring the future of the "De Vestel" building, part of the Royal Belgian Institute of Natural Sciences. To address the complex technical and structural issues of the current facility, a multidisciplinary team led by SumProject has been appointed to conduct a comprehensive feasibility study.

The study focuses on the technical and budgetary impact of two primary scenarios:

  1. Deep Renovation: Stripping the entire building down to its core and completely refitting it.

  2. Demolition and New Build: The total removal of the existing structure to be replaced by a modern, purpose-built facility.

Through specialized preliminary research, scenario analysis, and detailed financial estimates, this study provides the necessary framework for the Belgian Buildings Agency to make an informed decision. The final conclusions will serve as the roadmap for the next phase, leading to either an effective large-scale renovation or a complete reconstruction of the "De Vestel" building.
